History:
As volunteer programs became more formalized in healthcare, those responsible for leading the volunteer efforts joined together in the formation of the Indiana Society of Directors of Volunteer Services. Those first roots took place in the early 1970's with a pre-organizational meeting on March 28, 1973 where twenty people came together to form the nominating committee and by-laws committee. Then on June 21, 1973, there were 23 people present at an organizational meeting when the first election was held and the constitution and by-laws were amended and accepted. Thus, began the formation of an organization to allow Directors of Volunteer Services in hospitals and healthcare to come together, share ideas, fellowship and camaraderie while enhancing the volunteer programs for each institution. As an affiliated group of AHVRP (Association of Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals), ISDVS provides programming throughout the state of Indiana and liaisons with IHA (Indiana Hospital Association) and IHHAA (Indiana Health&Hospital Auxiliaries Association).
